Species Details
- KFPL's main species.
- Very dense and a sinker when
fresh cut (over 1000kg per m3).
- When air dried to 12% moisture
content it is 500-600kg m3.
- Gmelina logs from KFPL are
generally denser than the stated figure averaging approximately 700kg per m3
- Gmelina is a pale straw
coloured timber with a fine grain and slight lustre.
- Saws/machines very well; is
slow to season but is very stable when fully seasoned.

Used for manufacturing furniture, doors, window frames,
flooring and mouldings.

Suitable for interior ‘whitewood’ and kitchen furniture.

Also used for industrial pallets.

Appears to take repeated wetting and drying without
degrade with potential for use in boat building – a closely related species is
used locally for manufacture of canoes.

Suitable for pulping and paper making.
